Takeout
What is Takeout?
Takeout is food ordered by phone for pickup at the restaurant, not eaten in the dining room.
Takeout means the caller orders food to pick up and leave with it. It can be a single lunch sandwich, a family tray, or a full dinner order with sides and drinks.
In a real restaurant, takeout calls often come during the busiest moments: Friday night pizza runs, lunch rush burritos, or a rainy evening when pickup jumps. The caller may ask simple questions like “How long for two cheeseburgers and fries?” and then add a second item before hanging up.
Why it matters for phone orders: takeout is one of the fastest ways to turn a phone call into revenue without a dining room seat. It also needs clear names, phone numbers, modifiers, and ready times so staff can find the right ticket fast. For more on pickup workflows, see Pickup order taking.
