Third-party delivery
What is Third-party delivery?
Third-party delivery is when another company delivers the restaurant’s food and usually takes a commission.
Third-party delivery is delivery ordered through an outside platform that handles the driver and charges the restaurant a commission. Many restaurants use it for reach, but it comes with tradeoffs.
In practice, a caller may want a delivered chicken rice bowl or a family combo late at night. The order still needs to be accurate, but the restaurant often pays a fee on each order. That can make small orders less profitable, especially when the basket is light.
Why it matters for phone orders: phone orders can give you a direct channel without handing the customer relationship to someone else. If you want to compare direct orders with outside delivery fees, the Delivery app commission calculator can help you think it through using your own numbers.
