Warm handoff
What is Warm handoff?
A warm handoff is when the phone host passes a call to staff with a short summary attached.
A warm handoff means the phone host does not just dump the call on your team. It passes along a short summary first, such as the caller’s name, order, phone number, and why they need help. In a restaurant, this is useful for allergy-sensitive questions, complaint calls, manager requests, or catering details.
For example, a caller may ask whether the pasta sauce contains nuts. The phone host can collect the question and hand it to staff with the full context, so the caller does not need to repeat everything.
Phone orders matter because busy staff often cannot start from zero. A warm handoff saves time, lowers confusion, and helps the caller feel heard. It is especially useful when the phone should reach a person, not just a generic voicemail.
