Average order value
What is Average order value?
Average order value is the typical dollar amount of one order before tax and tip.
Average order value is the average amount each phone order brings in. If one caller spends $18 and another spends $42, the average order value helps you see the middle of that range.
In a restaurant, this number changes by menu and by time of day. A lunch deli order with a sandwich and drink may be smaller than a family dinner with appetizers, entrees, and dessert. A phone host can help raise order value by capturing sides, drinks, and add-ons clearly, such as “Would you like garlic knots with that?”
Why it matters for phone orders: this number helps you understand what each call is worth. It also gives context when comparing pickup, delivery, and other order channels. If you want to estimate order economics, try the Free tools page.
