Kitchen display system (KDS)

What is Kitchen display system (KDS)?

A kitchen display system shows incoming orders on a screen instead of printing paper tickets.

A kitchen display system, or KDS, is the screen your cooks watch to see new orders. Instead of paper tickets piled on the expo rail, the order appears on a screen with items, modifiers, and notes. For example, a Friday phone order might show: one large pepperoni pizza, one half-pepperoni half-mushroom, light sauce, extra well-done. That helps the kitchen start faster and keeps handwriting errors down. For phone orders, a KDS matters because the order should move cleanly from the call to the line without extra copying. ROAL sends a clean ticket to the kitchen screen, which is useful when the phone is ringing and the expo area is already crowded. See also Questions owners ask.
