Order ticket

What is Order ticket?

An order ticket is the written or digital slip that tells the kitchen what to make.

An order ticket is the ticket your kitchen uses to make the food. It can be paper or digital, but it should be easy to read and complete. In a real restaurant, a phone order for two lo mein, one with no onions, plus crab rangoons, becomes a ticket the cook can follow without calling back. The ticket should include the name, items, modifiers, notes, and pickup time. For phone orders, this matters because the caller may talk fast, and staff may be busy. A clear ticket helps avoid missed toppings, wrong sizes, and unclear allergy notes. It also gives the kitchen one place to check the order instead of relying on memory during a rush. That is why many owners want a clean flow from call to ticket.
