Modifier

What is Modifier?

A modifier is a change to an item, like size, topping, sauce, or cooking style.

A modifier is any change to a menu item. It can be a size, topping, spice level, cooking style, or side choice. For example, a caller orders a burger with no pickles, extra cheese, well-done, and fries instead of onion rings. Those are modifiers. In a real restaurant, modifiers matter because they are where most custom requests live, and phone orders often have many of them. If the staff misses one, the kitchen makes the wrong food and the guest is frustrated at pickup. Clear modifiers help the order ticket show the exact request in a way the cook can follow quickly. They also help the caller hear the order back before hanging up, so the restaurant can catch mistakes while there is still time to fix them.
