Conditional call forwarding
What is Conditional call forwarding?
Conditional call forwarding sends calls only when the line is busy, unanswered, or not available.
Conditional call forwarding only kicks in under certain conditions. That usually means the restaurant phone forwards when the line is busy, not answered, or out of service.
In a real restaurant, this is helpful when the host stand is already on another call or the lunch rush makes it impossible to pick up right away. Example: a diner’s line forwards only when nobody answers after a few rings, so the caller can still place a burger and fries order instead of hanging up.
Why it matters for phone orders: this setup protects the busiest moments without moving every call away from the restaurant. It is a good fit when staff still wants to answer some calls live. Codes vary by carrier and plan, so always confirm with your carrier and test with a real call. For many restaurant owners, the call forwarding codes page is a useful place to start.
